Rita Goble Roger's grandson needs your prayers
A note from Rita -

My life is in an upheaval. My 15 year old grandson was hit head on as a pedestrian by a driver doing 60 mph. He is in intensive care fighting for his life. He has massive brain injury and other bleeding within his abdomen. They are considering doing an induced coma because of the pressures in his brain.

They have already removed his skull cap on the left side to allow for expansion. This just happened Thursday night. It is traumatic for the entire
family.

Her grandson's name is Michael Allen Rogers and Rita is asking for our prayers for the grandson and the entire family.

Please put Rita and her family on your prayer list. Jim

Thank you so much for your prayers.
Michael is still in intensive care, but is trying to wake up - which is something they did not want him to do because of the high ICP number (brain pressure). So they just did another surgery this morning to drain the blood and fluid off his brain. If his pressures stay down, they will let him start slowly waking up!
I keep saying, "You go Mikey."
Thank you for all your support and prayers.
Love to all of you,
Rita

Good morning!

It has been a long week and I would like to update you on my grandson, Michael Allen Rogers, who was hit head-on (as a pedestrian) by a driver doing 60 mph. This occurred Thursday night 11/20/08 in Johnstown, CO. That night Michael was flown by 'Flight for Life' from Greeley, CO hospital to Children's Hospital in Denver, CO.

As of today 11/26/08, Michael is still in ICU and critical condition; however, it looks as though he is starting to respond more.

Within a day or two after the accident they had taken him into surgery and removed the top left portion of his skull to allow his brain to expand due to massive brain trauma.

A day later they did a second surgery and removed the blood clot in his frontal lobe.

They were also doing blood transfusions due to internal bleeding in the abdomen, from which he had an allergic reaction. By Sunday, the internal bleeding in his abdomen did cease, and they were able to stop the blood transfusions.

Since Monday, Michael has kept trying to wake up, and of course the doctors were freaking out because he needs to be perfectly still due to the high ICP
(intracranial pressure). Normal ICP's are 5-15mmHg and he was running in the mid to high 20's.

Of course his waking up says to me that he is trying to let us know that he is still here. So I say, "You go, Mikey!"

So yesterday morning (Tuesday) they drilled a whole through the skull and inserted tube for draining the blood and fluids from the brain. His pressures went down from 25 to 18 and they said if he continued to have the lower pressures, they "may" let him wake up.

Well, Mikey keeps waking up! Today the pressures are down to 12! So the Neurosurgeon's plan at this time is to slowly start letting him wake up.

He is still within the realm of "critical care," but it now feels like there is some HOPE. At least he is no longer just fighting for his life. We don't have any idea yet as to the extent of the damage or what shape his life may take. But he is Alive, and all I can say is "Thank you God!" My most heartfelt appreciation goes out to all you wonderful people who are sending up prayers. Please keep them coming. I thank you, I know Michael thanks you, and my entire family thanks you! We are full of gratitude for
your love and support.

With all of my Love,
Rita
