More News on Rita (Goble) Roger's Grandson
So here is my latest update for you. Not sure how far back I have gone so I will start with getting ready to move out of ICU.

A big thank you to all who are praying for Mikey. He is fighting. They may be able to move him out of Intensive Care tomorrow (12/3/08). At this point, they have taken him off the respirator, off the feeding tube (because he pulled it out - LOL) and the only tube they still have hooked up is the one that drains the fluid off his brain. He is semi responding to commands with his eyes and left hand. But he is fighting to be here! Thank you again for your love and support.

Well they actually moved Mikey out of ICU late Tuesday 12/2/08. On 12/3 they had him up and taking a few steps. By Thursday 12/4 they removed the drain tube from his brain.

I actually got to talk to him on the phone. His words were slurred, but he could definitely tell who he was talking to and tried to respond. He is doing so great considering what he has been through.

They are now feeding him thick liquids so he won’t aspirate any fluids, but he will hopefully be able to eat and drink what he wants very soon. Today, he was speaking more clearly. We are in the greatest hopes that he will have a full recovery. Time will tell us more; but he is alive and responding very well. From my limited knowledge and understanding, it seems that his age is very much on his side. The brain continues to develop until mid 20’s; so his chances of recovery are much better than they would be for an older person.

Thank you God!

Our Journey

You know, it has been an interesting journey this past 2 ½ weeks. Our family seems to be under siege. Never before ~ that I am aware of ~ have there been so many accidents within such a short period of time!

Michael’s accident was 11/20.

On 11/25, I was rear ended at a stop light and had some major whiplash going on. This was my son Brent’s birthday. Brent is Michael’s dad.

On 11/28, Brent had an accident in a dune buggy and wrapped the roll bar against his forehead. He needed stitches, but chose to go with just butterfly bandages. He has had a pretty bad headache for this whole past week.

On Wednesday 12/3, Mikey’s aunt on his mother’s side was killed in an automobile accident by a drunk driver.

And on Friday 12/5, I was picking up my daughter Erin from the hospital. She had fainted at work and struck her head. The fall produced an acute concussion.

I am so done with all of this. I have given implicit instructions to everyone that there are to be no more accidents. None I say! It is over; we are done.

So what is all of this?? What are all these injuries? And what are the head injuries? Some people may call it a test of our faith, others may refer to it as karma. And still some may blame it on the planets being misaligned or our economic uncertainty! And who knows, maybe it can be related to just plain old stress! I am sure there are as many explanations as there are possibilities. And I am sure someone could give us an idea of what is happening. But whatever the case, I call it done and over with. Enough of this!!!

At any rate, please keep us in your prayers! As always, Thank you for your love and support.

With love,

You have earned a place at the top of my prayer list. My goodness, this is too much tragedy for any one family. I hope all your traumas are behind you and that you have a wonderful holiday and are able to bring Michael home very soon. Jeannell

We received this update from Rita Rogers about her grandson, Michael:

Dear Friends and Family,

As most of you already know, on November 20, 2008, my grandson Michael Rogers (Brent’s son) was hit as a pedestrian walking along the shoulder of the road by a driver doing 55-60 mph. Mikey was taken to the Greeley Hospital and then flown to Children’s Hospital in Denver, CO by Flight for Life. Mikey suffered massive brain injuries…. They called it a shearing front to back and side to side. A blood clot was removed from the left frontal lobe. With the spirit of a 15 year old, he fought for his life with every ounce of strength he had. Job well done, Mikey! Mikey remained in Intensive Care for 12 days, and in rehab for another 2 ½ weeks. He was released from the hospital on December 19th, so it was a very special Christmas for all of us. His prognosis is 24 hour supervision for the next year, special 2 hour per day schooling, and therapy of course. They still are not definite as to the extent of his brain injuries. I do know that he does not remember the accident of any of 2008, but he is truly a miracle. He is a changed young man. He is alive, and my prayer is that he will realize who he is and what he is here to do. There is a definite purpose for his life! I know that God heard the hundreds of prayers that went up for Michael, so thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love and support. And, Thank You for holding the space for a miracle in this blessed holiday season!

Friends and family have asked about a donation fund for Michael since Michael’s family does not have medical insurance and we have no concept as to what the extent of his treatment and care will be for the next year. We have, therefore, established a Donation Account for Benefit of Michael Allen Rogers at Compass Bank in Longmont, CO. Donations may be made directly to the bank for Michael, of if easier you may send them to me:

Compass Bank
1849 North Main Street
Longmont, CO 80501
Ph: 303-485-7070

Account # 2511106705
Benefit for Michael Allen Rogers

At your request, the bank will provide a receipt for the gift. You will need to verify with your accountant, however, to determine if it is tax deductible.

I am grateful for you in my life!

In gratitude and peace,

Rita Rogers
