Mrs. Marie Cates
Mrs. Marie Cates, mother of classmate Cindy (Cates) Henry, died at 7:30 a. m. Sunday, June 7, 2015, at Green Tree Memory Care in Mt. Vernon.

She was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Mt. Vernon, daughter of Berle and Beaulah (Dement) Davis. She married Leland Wayne Cates on July 4, 1947, in Mt. Vernon, and he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Cates is survived by a son, Jim Cates and wife Raegena of Salem; three daughters: Cindy Henry and husband David of Modesto, California, Marcy Cates of Dix, and Kelly Cates of Michigan; a brother, Wayne Davis and wife Carolyn of Decatur; a sister, Vena Fischer of Kansas; and four grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gene Davis; and a granddaughter, Jessica Cates.

Mrs. Cates was a secretary for Judge McMackin and later worked at the Circuit Clerk's office at the Marion county Courthouse. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and former president of the PTA.

Services will be held at noon Friday, June 12, 2015 at the Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem with Larry Albert officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem.

Friends may call from 10:30 a. m. to noon on Friday at the funeral home.
