Tommy Wade Piper, brother of classmate Danny Piper, passed away at 2:30 p.m., Monday, November 23, 2015, at his residence in Herrin, Illinois.
Tommy was born on July 29, 1954, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, to Donald Dwight and Rose Marie (Thompson) Piper.
He was retired, having been employed in the boating industry. He was a member of the Herrin First Church of God. He also would give of himself by volunteering with the Red Cross. He helped to assist during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. He was quite an artist, and he enjoyed photography. He also loved gardening and cooking. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Tom is survived by his son, Sgt. Aaron Wade Piper of Hermiston, Oregon; daughter, Anjinette Mari Husher of Centralia; two grandsons, Ayden and Kolton Piper; step-granddaughter, Kalei Smith; mother, Rose Marie Reed of Herrin; brother, Danny Lee Piper of Bolingbrook, KY; sister, Linda Donell Wickham of Carterville; step-brother, Dr. Jack (Diane) Reed of McLeansboro; step-sister, Shirley Dunning of West Frankfort; nieces and nephews, Chad Johnson, Matt Piper, Chelsea Johnson, Sara Bisplinghoff, and a special great-niece, Tori Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Terry Dean Piper.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at the Herrin First Church of God with Pastor Dan Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 12th at the church.
Memorials may be to the Herrin First Church of God. Memorial envelopes will be available at the church the day of the services. The Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements.
