Darrell “Red” Shuler, brother of classmate Joyce (Shuler) Williams, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, at his home in Salem.
He was born on May 30, 1935, in Salem, and was the son of William “Bill” and Verna (Gray) Shuler. He married Edna F. Smith on Sept. 1, 1955, and she preceded him in death. He later married Elbertia (Burgess) Lewis on March 7, 2019, and she survives in Salem.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Shuler is survived by one son, Dwain Shuler and wife Peggy of Alma; step-children, Carla Gibson of Shumway and Bill Lewis of Centralia; grandchildren, Cory Shuler and wife Anna of Alma, Amie William and wife Carla of Beaumont, Texas, and Jennifer Maltman of Centralia; step-grandchildren Jason Lewis of Salem, Colette Cadle of Summersville, Tyler Lewis of Salem, Brandy Lewis of Salem, and Trevor Lewis of Salem; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Abigale and Brialey Shuler of Alma, and Jessica, Jamie, and Erica Maltman of Centralia; 14 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Sondra Harmon and husband Dick of Salem, DeAnna Correll and husband John of Walnut Hill, Phyllis Phillips and husband James of Salem, Dorris Ward and husband Lawrence of Fairfield, Rita Walker of Salem, and Joyce Williams of Salem; a brother Lloyd Shuler and wife Cookie of Salem; sister-in-law, Lisa Flagg of Salem; and brothers-in-law Larry Burgess of Alamo, Texas and Eber Burgess of Wayne City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Edna Shuler; one son, James Shuler; two sisters, Wilma Hampsten and Delilah Davis; three brothers, Raymond, Clinton “Buck”, and Don Shuler; one step-grandson, Joshua Lewis; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn McDowell.
Mr. Shuler was a heavy equipment operator as a Caterpiller driver. He was a member of the Grace Church of the Nazarene.
Private graveside services will be held at Allmon Cemetery with Doug Romine officiating.
