Classmate Marjorie Austin had died. Our condolences to her family and close friends.
Marjorie M. Austin, 70, of Springfield, died at 6:35 a.m. on Monday, September 14, 2020, at St. John’s Hospital.
Marjorie was born on January 11, 1950, in Springfield, the daughter of Emmitt K. and Edna Stahr Austin. She graduated from Salem Community High School in 1968 and earned her associate degree from Kaskaskia Junior College. Marjorie earned her bachelor’s degree from Sangamon State University and was employed with the State of Illinois for over 38 years. She enjoyed dining with friends, reading mysteries, gardening, and was a dog lover. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Mildred Jones, Kenneth Austin and Harold Lee Austin. She is survived by her siblings, Elmer Austin, Mary Purcell, Robert Austin, and Roger Austin, all of Salem, IL and many nieces and nephews. Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. A private family burial will be held at Summit Prairie Cemetery in Salem, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League, 1001 Taintor Rd., Springfield, IL 62702. Roger Lee Becker, 68, of Iuka, IL died September 19, 2018, at his home. He was employed by C & G Farms in Richview, IL. He enjoyed belonging to the Harley Davidson Biker Club. He was of the Lutheran faith. Funeral services will be 12:00 o’clock noon, Saturday at the Rankin Funeral Home in Salem with Pastor Darwin Schrader officiating. Burial will follow at Iuka Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 10:00 am until the service hour on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Donor’s choice and will be accepted by the Rankin Funeral Home, entrusted with the families care.
He was born December 21, 1949, in Salem, the son of Lester W. and Stella (Steuer) Becker. He married Joan Gibson and they divorced. He later married Oda Jean who survives in Colorado.
Survivors include a son, Michael Jackson of Mt. Vernon, IL. Also, 3 step-children, and several grandchildren. Also left to mourn his passing are sisters, Beverly Hodge of Mayo, FL, Donna Morado of Pensacola, FL, and Anita Hixenbaugh of Salem, along with several nieces and nephews; his aunt Ida Booher of Missouri, his best buddy, Carl Garden of Iuka, and his canine friends Pebble and Katie.

Janet L. Behnke, 25, of 233 Breese St., Central City, IL, was killed on Aug., 28, 1975, in a one-car accident on Odin Road, 1 1/2 miles south of Odin. According to a Marion County Sheriff's Department spokesman, her car was southbound at 3:30 p. m. when it apparently went out of control, skidded 247 feet and turned over several times. Miss Behnke was thrown 112 feet from the car. Authorities said she was tossed as high a some nearby telephone or power lines. She was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia. Miss Behnke worked for Wheaton Plastics Company in Centralia. She was born in Belvidere, IL, on June 22, 1950, daugher of Robert and Betty (Pease) Behnke. She was survived by her parents; two brothers, Roger and Randy; and a sister, Judith, all of Route 2, Iuka; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Pease of Belvidere. Funeral arrangements were handled by Cardascio-Hancock Funeral Home in Flora.
