Memorial services were held on Sunday, July 26, 1992, at the Park Slope Methodist Church in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, for David Lee Cantrell, 42, of Brooklyn, formerly of Salem. A memorial service was also held at a later date in Salem. Local arrangements were handled by the Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem. Cantrell died Wednesday, July 22, 1992, at the Cabrini Medical Center in Manhattan. He was born on March 1, 1950, in Salem, the son of Carl Y. and Helen Nattier Cantrell. He was a commercial designer and a member of the Park Slope Methodist Church. Survivors included his father and step-mother, Marianne, of Salem; a brother, Dr. Steven D. Cantrell of St. Louis, MO; a step-brother Bill Henderson of Chicago; and step-sisters, Valinda Henderson and Lori Cantrell, both of Phoenix, AZ. His mother preceded him in death. Memorials were established in the names of the Park Slope Methodist Church and the Salem Presbyterian Church.  Send David a Message

Obituary of Kathleen Marie CarterKathleen Marie “Kay” Carter, 72 of Alma, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois. Kay was born on March 23, 1950 in Salem the daughter of Frank Samuel Bryan and Myrtle Marie (Fradenburg) Bryan. She married Verland Carter on February 21, 1981 in Mt. Vernon and he survives in Alma. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Marie Bryan of Salem; five children, Janie Amburgey and husband Bennie of Central City, Chad Wilkins and wife Audrey of Iuka, Clayton Carter and wife Tiffany of Kinmundy, Jillian Kindermann and husband Steve of Alma, and Chandler Carter and wife Cheyenne of Salem; grandchildren, Willow, Tyler, Daniel, Tyler, Sadee, Emilee, Alexa (Tristan), Joselynn, Izabella, Hayden, Landon, Odin, and Astrid; great-grandchildren, Selena and Kinsley; three brothers, Allen Bryan and wife Cynthia of Mt. Vernon, Charles Bryan and wife Linda of Florida, and Rodney Bryan of Salem; sister-in-law, Gail Bryan of Greenville; and close friends, Judy Cain and husband Danny of Iuka. She was preceded in death by her father, and one brother, Danny Bryan.
Kay was a member of the Church of God in Salem. She worked for many years as a Register Nurse and as Director of Nursing for several nursing homes. She enjoyed camping and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. A graveside service for Kathleen Marie “Kay” Carter will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Martin Cemetery in Alma with Scott McKenzie officiating. Friends are asked to meet at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem by 10:00 am to drive in procession to the cemetery. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital-St. Louis and can be received at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem. |

  Well, my hobby is travel, which is a good thing since I'm a travel agent. My favorite past time would have to be my husband Mike. Mike retired from Norwegian Cruis eLine and I own Salem Travel. We do get to travel a lot but enjoy our time at home the most. Its a delight to be working with the committee on this website. It's been fun learning about who is where doing what. John Arnold Clayton, 27, of R. R. 1, Salem, died Sunday evening, July 3, 1977, as the result of of motorcycle accident on North Commerical Street in Central City, IL. He was born in Salem on April 20, 1950, son of William Lawrence and Imogene (Cavins) Clayton. In 1976 he married Sandra Darlene Heflin. Survivors included his mother, Imogene Hicks of Salem; a daughter, Kelly Ann, and two step-children, Tracy Lynn and Carl Garrett, all at home; a brother, Joe Hicks of Salem, and two sisters, Leanna Holmes and Linda Hicks of Salem. Funeral services were held on July 6, 1977, at 2 p. m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Odin with Rev. Howard Lynch officiating. Burial was in Cubbage Chapel Cemetery, northwest of Salem.
