Williams, Bernadette Gragg fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Mon., Dec. 3, 2007.

Beloved wife of the late Robert Fletcher Gragg and the late Vernace Williams; loving mother of Ann Gragg Goltermann (Gregory); proud grandmother of Robert Goltermann (Margaret) and Joseph Goltermann; dear sister of the late James C. Thompson and the late Winifred Johnson; dear sister-in-law of the late Alice Igoe Thompson; dear aunt of Alice Ann Thompson, James C. Thompson, Jr. (Carol), Mary Walrond and Virginia Reynolds; dear great-aunt and friend to many.

The extreme kindness and thoughtfulness she shared with her family, friends, and so many others she encountered throughout her life will be deeply missed. Services: A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Church of the Annunziata, Clayton at Cella Rd., Ladue, on Saturday, December 15 at 10 a.m.

Private interment. No visitation.

Robert Dean Jamison, 97, of Salem, Illinois passed away on December 17, 2022, at Stone Bridge Memory Care in Mt. Vernon.

Bob was born February 3, 1925, in Bridgeport, IL to the late V.A. (Jim) Jamison and Nellie Roberts Jamison. He married Virginia Cain on June 6, 1948. She preceded him in death on November 24, 2012. Bob is survived by his son Robert Jamison (Susan) of Murfreesboro, TN; daughter Suzanne Meyering of Summerfield, FL; grandson Bill Meyering (Amy) of Denver, Co; Tom Jamison (Chelsea) of St. Louis, MO; his sister Lou Bonnell of Robinson, IL, many nieces, and nephews. Bob was also preceded in death by his grandson David Jamison, son-in-law David Meyering, and sisters Audrey Johnson, Catherine Maus, and Margaret Wiley.

Bob served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was in Europe, the Philippines, and Japan. He was a sergeant in the Signal Corps. He was actually at the top of a pole-stringing communication wire when he heard that the war in Europe was over. He often recalled how quickly he came down to celebrate, and always wondered why he wasn't full of splinters!

Bob attended Eureka College as part of the G.I. Bill of Rights and his first teaching job was in 1958-59 in Kirkwood, MO. Bob and Virginia moved to Salem in 1960 and continued their teaching careers. After teaching in Patoka for a couple of years, Bob then started teaching at the Salem Jr. High School in 1963. However, he is best known as the Salem High School chemistry and science teacher, having taught students from 1964-1982.

Throughout his life, Bob was heavily involved in baseball. He coached the Salem High School team beginning in 1967. He served in many capacities with Salem Little League, and was especially proud to have a field dedicated in his honor. Bob also worked as a scout for the Cincinnati Reds throughout the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

Bob was a member of the First Christian Church, the American Legion, and the Salem Sports Hall of Fame. He was a regular at Sharon's Café, and especially enjoyed when former students would greet him and share memories. For the past 10 months, he was cared for at Stone Bridge Memory Care in Mount Vernon, IL. We appreciate the Stone Bridge staff and their kindness and compassion.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2022, in the chapel of Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home in Salem. Visiting hours will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at East Lawn Cemetery with Military Honors accorded at the graveside by the Salem American Legion Post #128. The family suggests memorials be made to the First Christian Church in Salem or the Salem Little League and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home, P.O. Mark H. Johnson, 90, of Salem, Illinois passed away December 21, 2020, cared for in the home of his daughter.

Born June 30, 1930, in Salem, he was the son of Harry F. and Harriet (Brinkoetter) Johnson.

Following graduation, he attended and graduated from SIU-Carbondale and the University of Illinois. He taught and retired from Salem Community High School, teaching health, and physiology, and coached football and basketball. He was a member of Salem Presbyterian Church, Salem Elks Club, and the Salem American Legion Post #128. He served in the U. S. Army (ROTC).

He married Imogene Huffman, on July 27, 1957, in Carbondale, IL and she preceded him in death.

Surviving is his daughter, Janelle Edwards and husband Mike of Salem, and grandchildren Lauren (Taylor Welch) Edwards and Mark (Natalie) Edwards. Also a great-grandson, Griffin Edwards, and one nephew, Marc Johnson.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Johnson, and Robert Johnson.

The family asks you gather with them at East Lawn Cemetery, Saturday at 10:00 am for graveside services. Denise Burke will officiate. There will be no public visitation. It is imperative masks be worn, and that those attending respect social distancing.

Robert D. Raver, age 91 of Salem passed away on Monday, January 6, 2020, at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Robert was born on October 8, 1928, in Salem, Illinois to Willis Leroy and Bertha (Tate) Raver. He married Jackie S. (Featherling) Raver on December 25, 1950, and she preceded him in death in 1990. He later married Mary Ellen (Leverenz) Hyde Raver on September 20, 1990, and she preceded him in death on September 17, 2019.

Survivors include a son, James Robert Raver and wife Nita of Salem; daughters, Susan Bacon and husband Dennis of Benton, Jenny Carlson and husband Ed of Salem, and Laura Westegaard and husband Dennis of La Grange, IL; stepson, Larry Hyde and wife Sue Ann of St. Charles, IL; stepdaughter, Susan Hellige and husband Dennis of Collinsville; and two sisters-in-law, LaDon Bookhout Adams and Joyce Raver He was also survived by 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and two wives, he was preceded in death by two brother, Dwight and James Raver.

Robert began his educational career as a Salem Elementary School Teacher and Principal at Oak Park Grade School. His early career was interrupted by his National Guard service when he was sent to Korea during the Korean Conflict. He then worked for the Illinois Office of Education as the Supervisor of Title 1 for 26 Southern Illinois Counties. Later Bob became the Superintendent of Salem High School and served from 1967-1991.

In 1959 he helped reopen the Antioch Christian Church in Texico and was the minister there for 14 years. He has served as a faithful adult Sunday school teacher for many years at both the Antioch Christian Church and First Christian Church.

He was a member of Rotary, the Salem Historical Commission, and a past member of the Salem Community High School Academic Foundation, he was inducted into the SCHS Academic Hall of Fame and was the first graduate of SCHS to earn a Ph.D.

Services for Robert Raver will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020, at 6:00 pm at the Crouse Funeral Home with Jonathan Schnautz and Phil Martin officiating. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 3:00 pm until the time of the service.
