Welcome classmates. We have entered all the names of those who went to school with us in Salem.  Some may have moved away before graduation, and some have passed away but we are all reunited on this website.

     Charles "Michael" Aaron, 59, of Salem died June 19, 2009, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.
     He was born on Dec. 17, 1949, in Salem, son of William H. and Thelma (Gardner) Aaron, and they preceded him in death.  He married Anneliese Egner on July 13, 1973, in Eberbach, West Germany, and she survives in Salem.
     In addition to his wife, Mr. Aaron is survived by four sons, Travis Aaron and Daniel Aaron, both of Salem, Karl Hammer of Sandoval and Jurgen Hammer of Germany; four daughters, Renate Hammer of Germany, Sylvia Baker of Collisnville, Ute Smith of Salem, and Ursula Morgan of Grafton; a sister, Judy Scrivner of Salem; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Hammer; a brother William Travis Aaron; and two sisters, Beulah Shaffer and Marcia Pickett.
     Mr. Aaron retired as superintendent of Quebecor-Petty in Effingham.  He was a retired veteran who had served in the U. S. Army.  He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he loved his family and his grandchildren.  
     Services will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Salem with the Rev. Bill Price officiating.  Interment will follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem.  Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the Luther B. Easley American Legion Post of Salem.
     Friends may call from 6 to 8 p. m. Tuesday at the Rankin Funeral Home in Salem and from 10 to 11 a. m. Wednesday at the church.
     Memorials in his honor may be made to the American Cancer Society or Diabetes Foundation, and they will be accepted at the funeral home.

Carolyn F. Abshier, age 73 of Salem, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.

Carolyn was born on May 4, 1950, in Boyd, the daughter of Dwight and Bernice (Simmons) Hopkins.

Survivors include her two sons, Lee Owens and wife Cinda of Salem and Jim Owens and wife Starla of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Koltt Owens, Coty Owens, Caden Owens, Kami Owens, Katie Owens, Kim Wiedemer, Courtney Rogers, Jaden Stockdale and wife Courtney, and Gavin Stockdale; and four great-grandchildren, Oliver, Caroline, Stella, and Wilder.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In keeping with Carolyn’s wishes there will be no public services.  Crouse Funeral Home in Salem is assisting the family.  Online condolences can be left at www.CrouseFH.com

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at 1:30 p. m. at the Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem for Carl E. Albert, 52, of Kinmundy, with burial in the Martin Cemetery in Alma.  Ron Riley officiated the services.  Albert died on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at his residence.  He was born May 2, 1950, in Salem, the son of Paul L. and Lois M. Hollinshead Albert.  He married Mary Faye Hanks on May 25, 1996, in Kinmundy.  He was an iron worker and attended the Kinmundy Christian Church.  He was a member of the NRA and was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.  Survivors included his parents of Alma; his wife, Mary; one son, Jon-Paul Albert of Iuka; one daughter, Melinda Gaertner of Iuka; one step-son, Chad Mulvaney of Kinmundy; two step-daughters, Chris Hawkins of Kinmundy and Kimberly Kretzer of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three brothers, David Albert of Iuka and Gary and Rick Albert, both of Alma; two sisters, Nancy Albert of Auburn and Maxine Nash of Salem; two grandchildren, Abigail and Sidney Gaertner; and three step-grandchildren, Joshua and Caitlyn Hawkins and Zachary Ktetzer.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia May Albert.  Memorials could be made to the Kinmundy-Alma EMTs or Martin Cemetery.

Cindy Anspach, age 69 of Salem, passed away at her home on Sunday, October 20, 2019.
Cindy was born on July 6, 1950 in Orchardville, Illinois to Neil Kenneth Burgess and Helen Louise (Ward) Burgess-Arnold. She married Glen Anspach on October 19, 1968 in Salem and he preceded her in death. Survivors include, one son, Jeff Anspach of Salem; one daughter, Gala Rose and husband Dustin of Iuka; two grandchildren, Tyler Rose and Emily Rose; two sisters, Carla Stransky of Vernon and Cheryl Thomas and husband Robert of North Carolina; one niece, Rachel Rucker and husband Darren of Swansea and one nephew, Rod Harvey of Salem.
Cindy worked as a factory worker, retail worker, babysitter and homemaker. She was of the Methodist Faith.
A Memorial Service for Cindy Anspach will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 10:30 am at Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home. Charles Jett will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 until the time of service.
