SCHS Class of 1968 Enjoys a Fun-Filled Reunion Weekend
Over 50 members of the SCHS Class of 1968 recently gathered in Salem for their 40th Class Reunion. Those attending were deeply appreciative to the planning committee for pulling together such an ambitious fun-filled weekend. The committee was composed of Janet Pratt, Jeannie Malone, Jeannell Charman, Brenda Loew and Jim Davidson.
The festivities kicked off Friday night, October 3, at the home of Janet Pratt, who hosted a wiener roast and bonfire. Classmates and spouses lent a hand: Nancy Meyer provided the chili, Ron Alvis whittled the hot dog sticks, Mike Charman made the bonfire, and Garry Hunter provided the watermelons.
On Saturday morning Bob Cantrell organized a morning golf outing at the Salem Country Club. In the afternoon, many classmates and their families gathered at Salem Travel to watch the Little Egypt Festival & Parade together.
That evening reception was held Saturday evening at the Orchard View Winery in Alma. Brad and Lisa Mazanek and Pete and Monica Watson, owners of the winery, were excellent hosts, arranging perfect weather and a warm cozy ambiance. A special thanks to Paula Russell for encouraging the Mazanek boys to build a bonfire.
The dinner was catered by Southern Comfort Catering of Kinmundy, who outdid themselves by providing a sumptuous meal of pork and chicken with all the trimmings.
Classmates contributed to the evening festivities as well: Janet Pratt provided the sound system, Jeannie Malone provided the centerpieces, and Toni Strieker provided a copy of the Class Prophecy. Following a social hour, Bob Jamison, Class President, welcomed the classmates and guests. Bruce Porter gave a presentation on the history of rock n' roll at SCHS. Amid much guffaws, Brad Woodruff shared his comedy talents by offering a look back at life in the 1960's compared to life today.
Classmates from 1968 who have passed away were honored in a display prepared by Janet Pratt with research done by Janet and Brenda Loew. The class remembered classmates Carl Albert, Janet Behnke, Carol Sinclair Brewer, Alan Buroughs, David Cantrell, David Deason, Janet Dial, Lynn Donoho, John Kohrig, Dana Woolridge Harmon, Brad Johnson, Gary Pickel, Barbara McLean Jourdan, Dorothy Wilson Littrell, and Lloyd Wimberly.
Janet Pratt also created a display in tribute to the service men and women in the Class of 1968 and their families.
